Les 2 Alpes
Les 2 Alpes is a popular resort, not least for its abundance of high ski-ing and almost year-round high-altitude ski-ing on the glacier. There is a lot of ski-ing above 2,400m as well as a modern lift system. Teams of competitive skiers and snowboarders from around the world flock to this resort every summer (July & August) to train each morning. The resort even opens for the autumn half-term holiday for skiers to brush up before winter arrives in earnest in December.
The resort also has a great ice rink as well as an indoor and outdoor pool.
The summer focus in Les 2 Alpes is downhill mountain biking. There are routes for all abilities and levels of confidence, including elevated "north shore" riding, foam pits and air bags to practice getting yout wheels off the ground.
The Mountain of Hell downhill race comes to town in early July, racing all the way from the glacier at 3,600m to the resort at 1,650m.
